Embracing Change: Yasmin Furmie on Style Inspiration, Comfort and Confidence

I’m Yasmin Furmie, a content creator and business owner. I usually talk about repeating outfits, re-styling what you have and trying to persuade my followers to consume less. I also talk about ageism and being able to wear what you want.

When I shop for clothes, I look at quality, whether a brand is known for producing what’s needed, and having a sustainable ethos.

My style is quirky and a descriptor of the many facets my personality has. It gets to the heart of my love of being unique and not allowing boundaries to hem me in. I don’t think too much about how I style, but rather how I feel when putting clothes together. There are times I love layering because I love the shapes made by the clothes. At other times, memories of loved ones inspire me.

I have a very natural instinct when it comes to what works. It’s almost automatic. I can see how I’ll put something together depending on what I want to achieve. Volume means lots of layers. I love juxtaposition - girly with something masculine.

I feel that these outfits are trans-seasonal. Certainly for me going into spring, the trousers can be paired with a T-shirt or cropped top and sneakers, or for cooler autumn days, a light knit and boots.

I love the fact that the clothes are comfortable. I’ve decided to wear both vests for one of the looks because it’s what feels right and works for cooler temperatures.

Embracing change constantly gives me the confidence to wear what I like and style it in the way I feel comfortable. I’m not dictated to by what’s “ in” or “out”. It’s important to be open to change personally as it influences your self belief.

My advice to someone in their 20s is this: we don’t have it figured out. We have the freedom to make mistakes, which we must in order to grow and to learn. Part of not knowing is actually being open to learning and what an exciting time to do so.

If we aren’t curious we might as well be dead. Curiosity is everything; it’s how we create, it’s how we change and it’s how we continue to learn.
